Yoga Workshops & Series

with Kim Schwartz

From decades of exploration of asana, pranayama and yoga philosophy, Kim's teaching inspires a deeper understanding of the body, breath and deep aspects of being. Blending clear instruction and attention to detail with a kind and gentle teaching style, Kim is known as a “teacher’s teacher,” one with the ability to communicate the timeless truths of yoga to fellow instructors in a way that enables them to pass this wisdom on to their own students.

Kim Schwartz was introduced to eastern philosophy as a child and began studying yoga in 1971 at age 18. In 1981 he met his Guru and began more formal studies in the yoga sutras and other aspects of yoga philosophy. Around that time he was also introduced to the Iyengar system of asana practice. In 1985 he was certified to teach yoga through the Temple of Kriya Yoga. He was ordained a Swami in the Kriya lineage in 1986. He has taught ongoing yoga classes, teachers training programs and workshops here and abroad since that time. Though asana and pranayama have become primary disciplines, the philosophy of yoga is still at the heart of his practice and teaching.

Sthira Asanam

Two hour workshop recorded December 5, 2020.

In the classical text on yoga, called the Yoga Sutras, the author describes asana in one aphorism: "Sthira Sukha Asanam." This translates essentially as “Stability and ease define the pose.” Stability is the first word, as without this quality, there can be no ease. Stability is created when two opposing forces are balanced and work harmoniously. The degree to which this stability is achieved is the degree to which the relationship is easeful and sustainable. This workshop explores foundational aspects of stability in asana practice and the opposing forces that create them.

Workshop (1 week access*): $15.00

* Unlimited streaming during the access period; downloads not available.
