About The Event

We will stay at a retreat center that is located on the Pacific Ocean next to a river in Montezema.  The center supports the local community and natural ecosystem with sustainable practices and offers works of local artisans. It is located a few miles from Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve which covers more than 3000 acres of pristine land and marine natural areas and is home to the San Miguel Biological Station.

Montezuma is a town in the southern part of Nicoya Peninsula which is on the western facing side of Costa Rica.  It’s known for its long stretch of white-sand beach. There are local walking and hiking trail that lead through jungle and around coves to Playa Grande, a popular surf beach. Close by the beach is Romelia Wildlife Reserve, a turtle sanctuary and hatchery. Montezuma Waterfall comprises a series of cascades and natural pools.  The Montezuma Waterfalls are the most iconic waterfalls in Costa Rica.

Our wellness retreat will offer you nourishing foods, rejuvenating and relaxing yoga, breath work and natural movement with optional options for exploration of the beautiful local area. There are many activities to explore in the area including surfing, sunbathing on the beach, paddle boarding, walking and hiking, bird and wildlife watching, snorkeling, swimming, and visiting nearby Cabuya Island.

Heather Lee Farrell works from a diverse yet integrated wellness background rooted in the belief that all aspects of our life matter healthwise. She has taught yoga since 2003 (trauma-informed ERYT500). When it benefits her yoga classes, she draws from training in natural movement derived from MovNat and Katy Bowman. She utilizes therapy balls in her classes via her training in The Roll Model Method. As a Health practitioner, she integrates her Doctor of Oriental Medicine, Functional Medicine and Nutrition studies with certification in Health, Wellness and Life Coaching to support people in transformational wellness shifts. ( heatherleefarrell.com ) Heather offers you the wellness of nature as a certified Forest and Nature Therapy Guide (forest bathing) in an inclusive accessible way. She loves practicing forest bathing while hiking and during wilderness adventures. She has completed a thru-hike of the Colorado Trail, section hike of continental divide trail and will head out along the PCT in 2020! You can follow her mountain wellness adventures on Instagram.com/heatherleefarrell and read her stories and poetry via her blog or upcoming book, Walking into Wild.

Zoreh Afsarzadeh, founder and director of High Desert Yoga, has been teaching yoga since 1985. Zoreh’s upbringing in Iran started her on the path of Sufism, meditation, and spirituality, and during her lifetime, she has studied numerous methodologies including Iyengar, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Siddha yoga, and that of the American Yoga College. Zoreh is passionate about yoga and exploring the heavenly spots in the world, so for more than 20 years, she has offered yoga and meditation retreats in inspiring locations such as Mexico, Thailand, India, Costa Rica, and Bali, as well as at various locations in New Mexico. Zoreh and her husband Charlie have created a beautiful outdoor studio, Yoga del Pacifico, on the beach in Troncones, Mexico, where she and other many well-known teachers regularly host retreats. Zoreh's joyous personality and sense of humor endear her to her students with a teaching style that is both nurturing and fun, and her teaching combines a delicate knowledge of the body that allows a compassionate authentic expression of the postures to emerge.
