Backbends and Twists for Back Care with Elise Miller
Join Elise to explore a safe approach to backbends and twists for those with lower back, shoulder or neck issues.

About The Event
Many of us have lower back, shoulder, or neck issues that limit our ability to do backbends and twists. Through this safe approach, Elise will guide you through a series of backbends and twists that, in combination, will bring openness to your body, joy to your heart, and enthusiasm to continue this practice for a lifetime. The class will conclude with more restorative poses and pranayama (breathing techniques) to create balance in body, mind and spirit. All levels are welcome.
Props you will need:
- a yoga mat
- two blocks (or books or low stool)
- two 8 or 10 foot straps (or 1 8 or 10' yoga strap and any size long scarf, rope or belt)
- three blankets or beach towels
- yoga bolster (or couch pillows or rolled up blankets), 8–10 foot long belt
- yoga chair or any chair without arms or wheels
Elise Browning Miller has studied in India with the Iyengars on numerous occasions, and is a Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher from Palo Alto, CA. She is a Founding Director of California Yoga Center in Mountain View, CA, and a faculty member at the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco. She teaches workshops and retreats throughout the US and internationally and specializes in scoliosis and other back issues. Elise has written numerous books and has recently released her new book Yoga for Scoliosis, A Path for Students and Teachers.
