About The Event
Yoga is a powerful tool for relieving back pain as well as teaching us how to mobilize, align and strengthen this area. This class is designed for all levels who need careful attention given to their lower back, hips and pelvis. Elise will address ways to adapt certain yoga poses for a many lower back conditions. She will give a series of therapeutic yoga poses for a variety of lower back conditions and identify and practice postures that emphasize both strength and flexibility. Anatomy will be discussed as pertinent to the poses we learn. This workshop is appropriate for those dealing with their own back-related issues as well as yoga teachers and those who treat these conditions in others.
Props you will need: a yoga mat, 2 blocks, 3 blankets or beach towels, bolster (3 blankets or firm couch pillow can be substituted for bolster), 8–10 foot long belt, yoga chair or any chair without arms or wheels, floor space with arms being able to reach out to sides of body at shoulder height and also overhead, a clear wall.
Elise Browning Miller has studied in India with the Iyengars on numerous occasions, and is a Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher from Palo Alto, CA. She is a Founding Director of California Yoga Center in Mountain View, CA, and a faculty member at the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco. She teaches workshops and retreats throughout the US and internationally and specializes in scoliosis and other back issues. Elise has written numerous books and has recently released her new book Yoga for Scoliosis, A Path for Students and Teachers.

This workshop will take place on Zoom. Register at least 30 minutes beforehand. You will receive the Zoom link in a confirmation email at the end of the registration process and again in a reminder email one day before the class. While you do not need a Zoom plan to participate, you can set up a free Basic Zoom Plan to practice using Zoom.
