About The Event

Whether we have muscle imbalances, scoliosis, kyphosis or lordosis, Iyengar yoga can bring an awareness to such asymmetry to facilitate transformation to a more balanced state both physically and mentally. The workshop will include information on different back conditions, time to explore in depth our imbalances, and then how to adapt the asanas for any asymmetry whether it be a major structural scoliosis or minor imbalance.  Teachers and students of all levels may attend.

Discussion and asana

Props you will need:

  • a yoga mat
  • two blocks (or books or low stool)
  • two 8 or 10 foot straps (or 1 8 or 10' yoga strap and any size long scarf, rope or belt)
  • three blankets or beach towels
  • yoga bolster (or couch pillows or rolled up blankets), 8–10 foot long belt
  • yoga chair or any chair without arms or wheels

Elise Browning Miller has studied in India with the Iyengars on numerous occasions, and is a Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher from Palo Alto, CA. She is a Founding Director of California Yoga Center in Mountain View, CA, and a faculty member at the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco. She teaches workshops and retreats throughout the US and internationally and specializes in scoliosis and other back issues. Elise has written numerous books and has recently released her new book Yoga for Scoliosis, A Path for Students and Teachers.

Online Workshop

This workshop will take place on Zoom. Register at least 30 minutes beforehand. You will receive the Zoom link in a confirmation email at the end of the registration process and again in a reminder email one day before the class. If you do not receive an email (and it do not find it in your spam folder), please email yogainfo@highdesertyoga.com.

Please join the Zoom meeting 10–15 minutes before the workshop begins.

While you do not need a Zoom plan to participate, you can set up a free Basic Zoom Plan to practice using Zoom.
