A Renewal Experience for Students and Teachers in Nature

Join us for a a renewal experience for yoga students and teachers in Troncones, a tranquil and beautiful beach, washed by the warm clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. Troncones is located 20 miles from the fabulous sleepy fishing village of Zihuatanejo. We will be staying on Manzanilla Bay, the most protected and beautiful beach in Troncones at the resort, La Posado de los Raqueros, offering oceanfront bungalows and rooms as well as air-conditioned suites. And we'll enjoy delicious, healthy seafood and vegetarian entrees prepared by professional gourmet chefs.

Each day, we'll offer two therapeutic yoga classes focused on restoring balance to body, mind and spirit with asana, pranayama and meditation at Yoga del Pacifico, a short walk down on the beach from the resort. Zoreh and Elise will address adaptations of certain yoga poses and breathing techniques for a wide variety of conditions such as poor posture, lower back pain, chronic neck and shoulder pain, scoliosis, lordosis, kyphosis as well as neurological and organic conditions. This retreat is open to students as well as teachers who wish to learn how to treat these conditions for their students.

There will be ample opportunities for rest and quiet time, or to partake in many activities such as swimming, bird watching, eco-tours with special hikes to caves, a swimming hole and a kayaking adventure on a nearby lagoon. Horseback riding, massage, shopping trips to Zihuatanejo, a boat trip to beautiful Ixtapa Island with snorkeling, and deep sea fishing are other optional activities.

Zoreh Afsarzadeh, founder and director of High Desert Yoga, has been teaching yoga since 1985. Zoreh’s upbringing in Iran started her on the path of Sufism, meditation, and spirituality, and during her lifetime, she has studied numerous methodologies including Iyengar, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Siddha yoga, and that of the American Yoga College. Zoreh is passionate about yoga and exploring the heavenly spots in the world, so for more than 20 years, she has offered yoga and meditation retreats in inspiring locations such as Mexico, Thailand, India, Costa Rica, and Bali, as well as at various locations in New Mexico. Zoreh and her husband Charlie have created a beautiful outdoor studio, Yoga del Pacifico, on the beach in Troncones, Mexico, where she and other many well-known teachers regularly host retreats. Zoreh's joyous personality and sense of humor endear her to her students with a teaching style that is both nurturing and fun, and her teaching combines a delicate knowledge of the body that allows a compassionate authentic expression of the postures to emerge.

Elise Browning Miller has studied in India with the Iyengars on numerous occasions, and is a Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher from Palo Alto, CA. She is a Founding Director of California Yoga Center in Mountain View, CA, and a faculty member at the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco. She teaches workshops and retreats throughout the US and internationally and specializes in scoliosis and other back issues. Elise has written numerous books and has recently released her new book Yoga for Scoliosis, A Path for Students and Teachers.

Plan to arrive February 27 in the afternoon and leave March 6 after 12 noon. The last class ends at 9:30am.
