Learn how and why to practice during your period, and gain insight about the benefits for your cycle that can result from your practice during the rest of the month. This deeply nurturing, relaxing sequence is a wonderful way to support yourself, and avoid future reproductive system problems.
Dr. Geeta Iyengar was a pioneer for women's yoga, and developed an in-depth approach for how to practice yoga in a way that supports, regulates, heals, and creates ease. We will explore her approach by practicing asanas to help common period related issues such as cramping, headaches, irregularity, emotional instability and heavy flow. A brief discussion on hormonal science and cycle charting will be included. You'll also gain insight on how to come to regular classes and adapt the sequence to accommodate your period time. This precious knowledge can help you turn your time of the month into a special time of soothing relaxation, replenishing rest, and self care.
Open to anyone interested in this subject. Yoga teachers are highly encouraged to attend!
Avery Kalapa is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT), who has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching since 2004. She is grateful for extensive study with senior teachers and has traveled around the US and to India to study yoga including therapeutic application, advanced practices, and embodied spiritual philosophy. The Iyengar method, anatomy, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and Vipassana meditation are the foundation for Avery’s practice. She brings a depth of skill, rigor, compassion, and commitment that creates not only safety and accessibility, but inspiration and transformation. Avery is passionate about yoga as a tool for social justice as well as inner freedom and healing. Avery is registered with Yoga Alliance as ERYT500 and YACEP and holds a BFA. Sage Harrington is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) and a graduate of High Desert Yoga's 500 hour teacher training program. In her classes, she explores poses fundamental to the Iyengar method with an emphasis on correct alignment for a safe and vigorous practice, helping students can grow body awareness and a capacity for mindfulness as they gain mobility, strength, and stability, while learning to deeply relax. Sage is also a FEMM fertility awareness teacher and enjoys merging the exploration of yoga for different parts of a woman's reproductive cycle with this hormone-free method of birth-control.
