About Zoreh Afsarzadeh
The founder of High Desert Yoga, Zoreh continues to inspire and guide the community at HDY where she also instructs regular classes, co-facilitates the 500 hour teacher training program, gives private therapeutic yoga sessions and leads retreats around the world.
Zoreh's students fondly regard her for the joy she exudes and for the radiant “heart-quality” she brings to her teaching and to the practice of yoga.Zoreh is known for her exuberance and the faith she integrates into her life and work. She safely challenges each individual to explore new possibilities inside themselves, creatively guiding them to discover new ways of moving into the poses. She engages and instructs students with an intuitive yet precise knowledge of the organization of the body, encouraging a profound expression of the asanas to unfold within each practitioner.
Every year Zoreh shares her passion for combining yoga with exploring the world, inviting students to join her in yoga retreats around the globe. Each spring and fall she welcomes students to her “home without walls” right on the beach in Troncones, Mexico for a rejuvenating and restorative retreat. Students also join her in discovering new retreat sites including Costa Rica, Peru, India, Greece and Bali. Zoreh combines her zest for adventure and fun with a perceptive ability to integrate place and practice, helping her students to move more deeply into themselves and into the culture of the places they visit.
Zoreh's varied training and years of experience include certification and practice in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy which she applies in private therapeutic sessions. Working individually, she targets her private sessions to the specific needs of the client, exploring where memories or emotions are stored in the body allowing the student to discover and move towards liberation from held patterns and freedom from “dis-ease.”
Zoreh's unbridled enthusiasm and faith inspire the community of friends, teachers, healing practitioners and students at High Desert Yoga to “follow their bliss.” A biography of Zoreh would not be complete without mentioning her contagious laughter or the mantra that she enthusiastically shares and inspires all of us to live: “Om Namah Shivaya” (translation: Om, I bow to the divine within)
Some quotes from Zoreh's students:
“her laughter is like a resonant bowl.”
“Being in Zoreh's energy field is like being drunk with Hafiz....”
“She cracks you open in a supportive way.”
“I have done and am doing so much work on this body and this apparent 'self;' there are moments in her classes when I sense something huge.”
